PLAY: Music

A three-week exploration of collaborative music

For ages 9-15 years old, this three-week program at Bethel Woods facilitated by the College of Performing Arts at the New School from NYC provides opportunities for exploration in songwriting, instrumental music, and vocals.

Students of all levels learn how to access music as a force for activism and develop their own self-expression in the form of original songs that speak to what they care for in their own lives. By offering education in many aspects of music, participants gain a full toolbox of musical skills --vocal and body warm-ups, voice projection, national and international musical traditions, foreign language exposure, identifying song genres, improvisation, performance etiquette, history and social issues as inspiration, figures of speech, composition and instrumental scoring--as well as experience thinking critically and working collaboratively to achieve goals. Individual instruction in voice and instrument are offered as well as group collaborations and ensemble work.

All levels of musicianship are welcome; participants can choose from a variety of instruments and at which level they’d like to start.  P.L.A.Y. Music culminates in an exciting and engaging presentation of program process including sharing of traditional and new compositions, ensemble and solo performances, and opportunities for the audience to join in!

Because P.L.A.Y. programs are well-attended and popular in our community, attendance for the full range of program dates is expected.

P.L.A.Y. is a fee-based program. Registration fees are $350 per student per program. Tuition assistance is available based on financial need; please fill out the tuition assistance application on the registration form. You must upload documentation of proof of income that can include, but are not limited to, your most recent tax statement, recent pay stubs, or a stub from your most recent public assistance check. Maximum size per file is 3Mb. We also have transportation available if needed.
