How do I become a volunteer at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts?

  • First, identify your personal goals to know what type of volunteer position will be most rewarding to you.
  • Second, assess your interests, skills and time availability.
  • Third, complete an on-line VOLUNTEER APPLICATION, or call the Volunteer Services office at 845.295.2626 to receive a printed version of the application.
  • Please mail your application to: Volunteer Services, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, PO Box 222, Liberty, NY 12754.

How much time am I expected to volunteer?
We ask each volutneer to make a commitment of at least 50 hours per year. These hours can be distributed between Museum, concert, event and administrative assignments depending on your personal interests; there is no requirement that you serve in all areas or at all events. You will use our on-line tool, www.myvolunteerpage.com to sign up for service and report your hours of service.

What about orientation, training and supervision?
We are dedicated to providing informative and effective orientation, training and supervision for all volunteers. You will be required to attend one Orientation & Training and one Hands-On Training prior to your service, and will also receive training and supervision by paid staff members while in service.

What is the dress code for volunteers?
Concert, event and museum volunteers will be asked to wear tan/khaki slacks, a white collared short or long sleeved shirt and shoes appropriate for walking, assisting others and climbing on steps or grass in the concert or event areas. Volunteers will be provided with a volunteer vest to complete their uniform.  Volunteers serving in the administrative areas should dress in appropriate office attire for their assignment.

Are there age limits for volunteers?
People of all ages can volunteer provided they are physically able to perform the tasks required without posing a threat to themselves or to patrons. Young people, between 16 and 17 years of age, can volunteer provided the work does not pose a risk to their health or safety and does not violate Federal or State child labor laws or the policies of Bethel Woods. A parent or legal guardian must provide written consent for a volunteer under 18. Final determination of volunteer assignments will be made by the Manager, Volunteer Services and Director of Operations.

Will volunteers be able to see or hear concerts while on assignment?
Not all volunteer positions will bring volunteers into the concert areas to see or hear the performances. We hope that all volunteers will enjoy their service opportunities through interaction with patrons, staff, the community, the beautiful site itself, and, of course, the performances.

What are my responsibilities and rights as a volunteer?
You are entitled to orientation, training, supervision, support, a clear and fulfilling assignment, a healthy work environment, respect and recognition. You are responsible for attending orientation and training, fulfilling your commitment, cooperating with staff, keeping informed about your assignments, being flexible with regard to your assignment and understanding your role as a volunteer.
