The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad

2014 Family Film Series

The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
Rated: G
Year: 1949
Pre-Activity Scavenger hunt starts at 5:30PM

One of the more cohesive of Disney's "hybrid" cartoon features, The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr. Toad consists of two separate continuities, each a half-hour or so in length. The first, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", relates the beloved Washington Irving story about gawky schoolmaster Ichabod Crane, his beloved Katrina, his brutish rival Brom Bones, and the fearsome "Headless Horseman." A light touch is maintained throughout via the laid-back narration of Bing Crosby. The second story-and the better of the two-is "The Wind and the Willows", adapted from the stories by Kenneth Grahame. Narrated by Basil Rathbone, this is the story of foolhardy Mr. Toad of Toad Hall, whose love of automobiles lands him in heap of trouble. Released simply as Ichabod and Mr. Toad, this Disney compendium was filmed under the working title Two Fabulous Characters; both the "Sleepy Hollow" and "Wind in the Willows" components were later released separately in short-subject form, and were also perennial attractions on Disney's weekly TV anthology. Author: Hal Erickson.

Directed by: James Algar, Clyde Geronimi and Jack Kinney
Cast: Bing Crosby, Basil Rathbone, Eric Blore, J. Pat O'Malley, John Floyardt, Colin Campbell
Run Time: 68 minutes
Cinema Conversations:  Mark Robinson

Bethel Woods’ Education department will host a safe trick or treat event on Halloween Eve, prior to the film to local youth and families by conducting a history hunt throughout the museum and into the theater for an educational, fun and safe community event. The program will run prior to the film at 5:30PM. The trick or treat program is offered free-of-charge to area youth and families.

The Bethel Woods' family film series brings families and communities together to become inspired through the arts, learn something new and to empower all ages through self expression. All of our family film start with a pre-activity to enrich the experience of making memories and creating new ones!

Bethel Woods' Educational and Children's programming is supported by Annelise Gerry and Family and the Rhulen/Loughlin Family - In Memory of Trevor John Loughlin.
