SCHEDULE: Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-8pm/Saturdays 12-4pm
What's in store:
• FREE digital photography workshops for teens ages 14-18
• Access to pro-level studios, photography equipment, and editing software like Photoshop and Lightroom
• Mentorship from experienced teaching artists
• Collaboration with fellow creative teens
Project: Identity Photography is a 10-week digital photography program for high school students ages 14–18, designed for both first-time participants and returning P:I Photo students looking to grow their skills. Whether you're new to photography or continuing your creative journey, you'll explore the fundamentals of composition, camera techniques, and digital photo editing. Connect with like-minded peers while learning from experienced Bethel Woods teaching artists and guest photographers through weekly workshops and photo excursions. Students will have access to DSLR cameras and the on-site Mac lab throughout the program. The experience concludes with a group exhibition at Bethel Woods and the creation of a collaborative photo book that highlights each student’s unique perspective. More than just a creative arts program, PI Open Studios serves as a welcoming, safe space for youth to connect, express themselves, and grow after school hours.
Where and when does Project: Identity Open Studios Photography take place?
September 30- December 6 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-8pm, and on Saturdays from 12-4pm, at The Conservatory at Bethel Woods. We require participants to attend on Saturdays, as these are important (and exciting!) informational sessions. Participants can opt into one or both Tuesday and Thursday evenings to work independently on projects (with support from Teaching Artist staff).
Who can participate?
Anyone between the ages 14 and 18.
Do I need my own camera?
All participants will be given a digital SLR camera to use over the course of the program.
Who will be on-hand to supervise program participants?
There will always be at least 3 members of the Bethel Woods staff on site to mentor and teach our teen participants for the full duration of the program. These folks will include the programs primary Teaching Artist, guest lecturers, and Program Managers.
How much does it cost?
This program is totally free for participants.
What kind of activities are available?
Our state of the art Lab is equipped with Mac computers and high level printers. The program will be designed to offer introductory workshops in digital photography and photo editing. During Open Studio time, participants will explore creative projects of their choosing, with talented Teaching Artists and trained staff to mentor them along the way.
I've already taken a Project: Identity class, can I still join?
Sure! You are welcome to choose a different learning track to unlock new skills or pursue your passions with an independent project guided by our supportive Teaching Artists.
How many days per week do I have to attend?
The Saturday seminars, from 12–4 PM, are required. Students can choose Tuesday or Thursday evenings (or both) from 6–8 PM as their studio time.
