Event Details
In this creative workshop adults are invited to slow down and explore the art of still life photography as a form of mindful observation. Through simple guided exercises, participants learn to notice light, texture, and composition with fresh eyes, tuning into the quiet details that are often overlooked. Using everyday objects and natural materials, we’ll experiment with creating small scenes that reflect mood, meaning, and personal expression. Whether you’re new to photography or looking to deepen your practice, this relaxed session encourages presence, curiosity, and a renewed appreciation for the beauty in the ordinary.
Winter Wellness at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts: Embracing themes of new beginnings, self-care, and overall health and wellness, the classes offer a diverse range of experiences. From expressive arts activities that ignite a creative flow to gentle mind-body practices like yoga and sound healing that warm both the body and spirit. Facilitated by a rotation of guest artists and wellness practitioners from the local area, these classes offer a holistic approach to well-being.
About Bette Blau
Bette Blau is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts, where she earned a fine arts degree in painting. She transitioned into a career on set before discovering a passion for shooting and styling smaller, more intimate projects. Her focus on artisans has coincided with a rekindled love of painting and collage, supported by increased time spent working in her home studio.
Bette strives to create compelling art and imagery from found objects, seeing history, character, and beauty in the discarded, the organic, and the obsolete. Old kitchen utensils, industrial components, and wild mushrooms—chosen for their form, color, and patina—are repurposed into graphic compositions and evocative still lifes. From the detritus of everyday life, her work envisions something entirely new, inviting viewers to reconsider what we take from the past and carry into the future.
Bette has been a special guest artist at Bethel Woods for the past three years, working with teen photography students, and is excited to expand her teaching to adults as part of this series.
