Join us for an evening with Jim Messina in the Event Gallery at Bethel Woods on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
An undisputed expert in the fine art of making hit music, Jim Messina’s legacy of musical genius spans five decades, three supergroups, a vibrant solo career, and scores of producing and engineering credits.
“Your Mama Don’t Dance,” “Angry Eyes,” “Danny’s Song,” “House at Pooh Corner,” and “You Better Think Twice” are just a few of the many beloved songs showcasing Jim Messina’s vast catalog of hits.
Messina first made his mark behind the boards, acting as producer and audio engineer for Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Buffalo Springfield. He eventually joined the band as its bass player, and when the group disbanded in 1968, he and bandmate Richie Furay formed Poco. With Messina on lead guitar, Poco helped define an entirely new musical genre: Country Rock.
After three successful albums, Messina returned to his passion for producing and signed on as an independent producer with Columbia Records. In November 1970, Columbia asked him to work with an unknown Kenny Loggins. While preparing Loggins for recording and touring, the two discovered a natural chemistry. Messina agreed to sit in on Loggins’ first album, and Kenny Loggins with Jim Messina Sittin’ In was released in 1971 — launching what became an “accidental” duo.
Over the next seven years, Loggins & Messina released eight hit albums, produced a long list of charting songs, and sold more than 16 million albums, becoming one of the most successful recording duos of the era. Eventually, the pair amicably parted ways to pursue new musical directions.
Since then, Messina has released multiple critically acclaimed solo albums and performed for audiences across the country. Most recently, he and his new band, The Road Runners, released the live album Here, There & Everywhere.
Still touring to sold-out crowds nationwide, Jim Messina says he’s enjoying the journey of discovering who he is, where he’s been, and—most significantly—where he’s going.
