Drawing from a community of artists and educators, the Teaching Artist program provides an opportunity to develop an arts-based practice of inquiry and creative learning through the lens of Bethel Woods historic site, the 1960’s, Museum collections, and current arts education initiatives. Museum Education and Creative Programs offer professional development training and ongoing supervision for teaching artists to support their creative vision, find solutions to challenging situations, and ignite mission-driven passion for teaching at Bethel Woods.
Teaching Artists, recruited through expansive outreach efforts and partnerships with local and regional arts organizations, are contracted for a 12 month residency wherein they are guided toward program selection that is well matched to their skills and interests.
Opportunities to teach are part-time, project-based, and compensated with stipends at a flat rate per program. Museum Education and Creative Programs hosts an initial training that familiarizes Teaching Artists with our programs, museum collection and docent tours, Bethel Woods’ history and values, and organizational policies.
Benefits:
- Paid professional development

What is a Teaching Artist?
At Bethel Woods, Teaching Artists are at the heart of our creative community. They are practicing artists and educators who guide participants through meaningful experiences rooted in creativity, self-expression, and connection. Teaching Artists support not only skill-building, but also curiosity, confidence, and a sense of belonging.
Through their work, Teaching Artists help bring our core principles of history, creativity, and community to life. Whether drawing inspiration from the cultural legacy of the site or fostering present-day connections, they create spaces where participants can reflect on and engage with the world around them.
What ages do Bethel Woods programs serve?
Our programs serve participants ages 5 and up, including children, teens, and adults. Teaching artists have opportunities to work with a wide range of ages, interests, and experience levels across our arts education and community programming.
